Self-Care Guide For Mamas
Self-care is all about taking intentional steps to care for ourselves, and as moms we typically don’t put ourselves as a priority. From taking care of the kids, the home, and working, etc. it can be a lot to juggle; our needs can be placed on the back-burner. There is a saying that may be cliché, but it couldn’t be more true: “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” Mama, it is time to take care of YOU!
Self-care is not a luxury, it is a necessity. I have rounded up some of my favorite forms of self-care so I can share them with you!
Physical
Exercise: getting movement in can boost your mood, enhance your physical health, and be much-needed alone time for any busy mom!
Be in nature: aside from the sun feeling great on your skin, it is also vital for your physical well-being and can vastly improve your mood by boosting serotonin production. I love to dive into a book while out in the sunshine!
Skincare: having a daily skincare routine to care for yourself is a great form of self-care. You can exfoliate, cleanse, and moisturize- it can be so refreshing and it feels good to take care of your own body for a moment when most of your day is focused on your little one’s bodies! It can also be nice to indulge every now and then and do a face mask or red light therapy treatment!
Treat yourself: having your favorite sweet treat or savory snack while watching your favorite show once the kids go down for bed is a great way to unwind and relax so you can reset for the following day!
Mental & Emotional
Meditation: setting aside even just 15-20 minutes to be in the moment and do a guided meditation or deep breathe can go a long way for your mental and emotional well-being throughout the day.
Journaling: being able to explore your thoughts and feelings on paper can be so valuable! Just getting everything you are thinking out of your mind can help unscramble some of the emotions you are feeling. I also enjoy setting goals after I have purged my mind of everything as it can be helpful to write out your intentions going forward.
Unplug: getting off of social media, even for just a day can make a big impact on your mental health. Replacing the habit of scrolling with something like a book or a journal is a great way to enhance your mood.
Time with a loved one: connecting with someone you love and care about and being able to simply have a conversation can help to “fill up your cup” socially. As human-beings it is so important to prioritize connection! “Self-care through connection involves quality conversations, shared rituals, shared experiences.”
Self-Care Kit
It can be so convenient to have your own custom self-care kit on hand to ensure you make time for yourself each day. It can be fun to get a cute basket or box to keep the items in. Items should include products that help you to unwind, reduce stress, and relax! Here are some examples:

Be sure to make your self-care kit accessible and use it frequently! Making time for YOU daily, or whenever you’re feeling stressed is SO essential to your health and well-being!
